It’s Time for Trains!
Model railroading has experienced a major resurgence over the past two years—come see what the excitement is all about. Our HO scale trains look and perform like their real-world counterparts, complete with sound, lighting, and realistic operations. The Verdugo Valley Lines features detailed scenery including buildings, trees, people, animals, deserts, hills, tunnels, industries, and more.
The Glendale Model Railroad Society is located just a few blocks from the 134 Freeway (Pacific Avenue exit, 7A North). Turn left on Hahn Avenue.
Admission is free, and families and cameras are always welcome.
This month, we’re celebrating our return to regular Open Houses and the theme “Trains and the Holidays.” Visit us and discover why T is for Transportation, and why trains continue to fascinate generations.
About the Glendale Model Railroad Society
Established in 1949, the Glendale Model Railroad Society is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building and preserving the HO scale Verdugo Valley Lines, a layout set in 1950s Southern California. Highlights include the world-famous Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal, Glendale Station, Tehachapi Loop, and Beautiful Downtown Burbank.
Parking is available. Families, cameras, and questions are always welcome—and it’s always free.
If you’re interested in helping build the Verdugo Valley Lines, membership is open, and beginners are welcome.
Themed First Mondays
On the first Monday of each month, we feature a special theme that tells stories about railroading in Southern California. These themes help bring the history, technology, and excitement of trains to life—even for visitors new to the hobby. We hope you enjoy your visit, learn something new, and come back again.
If you’re curious about joining the Society, simply speak with the member in attendance.
First & Third Saturdays: See the Action
On the first and third Saturdays, the railroad is alive with activity. You’ll see trains running, members working on scenery and equipment, and you may even get a look behind the scenes at how everything comes together. It’s a great opportunity to explore the hobby and learn more about model railroading.
Fourth Monday: Operations Night
The fourth Monday of each month is dedicated to Operations Night—a chance to see how real railroads work to keep freight moving. From switching cars in the yard, to picking up and delivering freight at industrial sidings, to watching heavy trains work the mainline, Operations Night shows how railroads function as a full transportation system. It’s a hands-on demonstration of why T is for Transportation, and why railroading remains essential in both the real and model world.
